Driving in Thailand - prayers needed

When we first arrived to Thailand our leaders explained the traffic rules like this: “There are no rules, you just kind of go with the flow.” And, “Because you’re the foreigner, any kind of accident you get in will be your fault.”  I (Jay) did get into a minor car accident. While I was returning home from the store, I was driving through an intersection and a truck decided to make a right turn at the same time. Nobody was hurt, and both vehicles were not seriously damaged. The other driver’s insurance man came and he tried to split the blame 50/50 which we just agreed to. Then my insurance guy came and said, “No, it is the other driver’s fault.”  That was a miracle. So in the end, the other driver was blamed and lost face as well.

Driving in this country is very dangerous. Just a month or two after my accident I witnessed a motorcycle get hit by a car, and the teenage girl passenger, with no helmet, flew off and hit her head on the cement power line pole and laid unconscious.  While driving back to Lopburi from the field trip, Jenn saw a truck spin out of control just 3 lanes away from us and crashed into a parked truck. Just a few days ago, we got word that Jenn’s Thai brother Few, got in a motorcycle accident and his face is not looking good at all. We just visited them last week and he was fixing up his motorbike. Also this week, a YWAM missionary family was driving up to Chiang Mai and they all died in a collision with a truck.

So please pray for our safety and other missionaries’ safety as we drive in this country.
