November 2013 update

Dear Partners in Ministry,

We have MUCH to be thankful for.  October 28th was our 6 year wedding anniversary.  In addition to celebrating matrimony, we are reflecting on the 6 years that it took us to get to Thailand.  Some of those years were really hard!  But God was faithful at preparing us and getting us to the place that He put on our hearts. So many of our partners were part of our pre-Thailand journey and we thank you for your ongoing support as mentors, financial givers, prayer warriors and friends.

Praises
*We have made a few good Thai friends, both Christian and non-Christian. PTL!
-Goo Guy is our neighbor and she has been amazing at helping us with language learning and is a believer. Her son "Paper" and Moriah are good friends and we attend the same church.
-Third, Mink & baby Proud!  We met this couple at the playground and they speak English!  They seem eager to help us and want us to use our Thai with them too.  They had us come to their sister's wedding a few Sundays ago, it was a great cultural experience for us and a great excuse to hang out with them.  We look forward to keeping this relationship going.

*Moriah has adjusted very well.  Thank you for your prayers!

Language study - for the 3 of us !
The 3 of us continue to learn language! We are not going to lie...Thai is hard! It's tonal, there are 44 consonants, the symbols are totally different, and it is not like English!  But we are progressing, so we are encouraged.   In one of my language checks, I (Jenn), said "I fry my rings" instead of  "I take off my rings" (the word was correct, the mistake was the tone, I said a falling tone instead of the low tone...whoops!).  During the week, we study Thai for about 6 hours everyday and then try to use it in the community.

Moriah is learning Thai at her school from her teachers. She has begun to wai (bow) to our neighbors to say hello (not just to get candy) and this is a huge improvement since last time we wrote.  Her English is improving too, don't worry!  :)

In the community
Jason has really enjoyed playing basketball weekly with the locals. I (Jason) have been really seeing how useful sports can be to help engage with people. I have been able to play basketball once to twice a week with the local Thais.  Sports is a universal language and is a very natural way to develop relationships. My prayer has been that the Lord would lead the right people to me. Since that prayer, last week I noticed that one of the guys I play basketball with lives in the apartments right next to my house. I take that as an answer to prayer and will continue to intercede for him and see what the Lord does.

Please Pray for a vehicle
Next year we will be moving to Isaan (Northeast Thailand).  As we will be living rurally and most likely a good distance from the next team member and large city (ie hospital, grocery store, etc.), we are praying for the funds to purchase a used pickup truck with a canopy. We would like to be able to seat our family and others. Used cars in Thailand are expensive and do not depreciate as they do in the US.  From the sale of our car in the US, we have less than half of what we need for the truck. Please pray that the funds come in and that we can find a pickup for a decent price!

Prayer points
- Language Learning.  For concentration and comprehension!
-Funds for a vehicle
-To continue the relationships we have made here in town!
-Safety, especially when we travel

Have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

-Jason, Jenn & Moriah
